Annalise Russell is a true romantic, right down to her toes. She’s been an avid reader of romance novels since she started sneaking them out of her mother’s closet as a teenager. Writing, in one form or another, has been a way of life since high school, thanks to the encouragement of teachers and professors along the way. Now, she spends her days writing for others what she loves to read most, romance.
Her first novella, IN HIS BED, is due to be released in September ‘08 by Kensington Publishing. The story is part of a three novella collection titled, THE PLEASURE OF HIS BED.

Hi Annalise,
I finally figured out the “tag thing” today and found your posting. You and I have a lot in common. I’m an author also – although I write women’s fiction – similar genre. Check out my new blog at: womensfictionetc on wordpress.
Looks like you’ve blogged for awhile…how do you advertise yourself and your blog? Thanks – Laura

Laura,
Thank you for commenting, and good luck with your writing. As for advertising my blog, after a while the main internet search engines will begin picking up the name. Also, I list the link on my signature line in email. I also list the link in conjunction with any author promotion I do, interviews, bookmarks, websites and such. Another good way is to read other blogs and comment

Hi Annalise,
Thought I’d drop in and see how the blogging was going. Looks like its been a while since you last posted – I hope that’s because you’re working on your next book. My posts have trailed off to just 1 a week – officially because my workload at home has grown as we started painting the house – unofficially because my net access at work has fallen under scrutiny. I think my writing career has just about come to a close. I’ve had no luck selling my last two manuscripts and figure that’s probably a sign that it’s time to throw in the towel. I’ll keep up the blogging for a time anyway. In fact I think I’m going to post both manuscripts on my blog – 1 chapter at a time. At least that way a few folks will be able to read my work. I’ll keep checking in every so ofter. My best to you and your career – you carry a heavy burden of inspiration to many. J/W

Annalise,
I stumbled upon your blog and was very happy to see the word “novella” in your intro, and that one has been published. Can you tell me how long each of your novellas are? The reason I ask is that I have a series of stories that aren’t exactly short stories, but are not “full-lenth” either. I recently created a blog on wordpress to put the stories out there while I rewrite and polish them up. Although mine are murder mysteries set in a bakery, I am always happy to chat with authors of all genres.
Congratulations on your publication!

Kelly!
Hi! Publishers will often combine novellas into an anthology. Usually there are 3 stories in one book. The stories can be from one author, or different authors, as is the case for THE PLEASURE OF HIS BED. I believe my story, IN HIS BED, was about 40,000 words in length. But word count requirements can vary from publisher to publisher. Some novellas can be as short as 20,000 words. My best suggestion would be to read published stories that you feel are similar to your own writing, and then look at that publishers guidelines. Best of luck! ~Annalise

Thanks! I’ll do that. At this point, I’m just trying to organize my blog and learn all the technical blog stuff at the same time. Not easy!
Thanks again for the info.
